Bengal Partition (1905)

  • The most important event of the second phase of the Indian National Movement was the Partition of Bengal (1905 AD).
  • Lord Curzon's Governor General period was the climax of British imperialism in India. Among his various administrative functions, the task which was most opposed and which was his most controversial work was the partition of Bengal.
  • Curzon's decision of Bengal Partition (1905 AD) was an indirect attack on Indian nationalism.
  • The Bengal Presidency was the largest of all erstwhile Presidencies, including Bihar and Orissa including western and eastern Bengal. Assam was separated from Bengal in 1874 itself.
